Val d'Isere
(1850m - 3456m)
Widely acclaimed as one of the top ski resorts in the world, Val d'Isere
offers a unique combination of old world charm, cosmopolitan international
clientele and a great variety of apres-ski for all age groups.
Every year International ski journalists argue the
point as to whether Val d'Iisere provides the best all round skiing
in the world. Espace Killy is the highest extended terrain in the Alps
and, therefore, the best snow guarantee that you can get.
For the beginner, Val d'Isere is a very comfortable
place to learn to ski with free ski lifts and nursery slopes right in
the heart of Val d'Isere very near to all the bars and restaurants.
Above the resort, and only one chairlift away are
the green runs on the Solaise and Fornet mountains. L'Espace Killy is
reknowned for being the "promised land" for intermediate
skiiers. There are mile uppon mile of wide gentle sunny pistes and
many challenging red runs for those that want the challenge.
More experienced skiers take to the Bellevarde
mountain above the village which houses the Snow Park, a fun place for
snowboarders, moguls, bumps and great off-piste that overlook the village.
And for those of "007" stature, the daunting Face de Bellevarde
black run offers the ultimate for those wanting an adrenalin fix.
The lift system in Val d'Isere is very impressive
with the Funival (underground train) ascending to 2850m in 4 minutes.
It is one or the nine principal lifts that whisk you away onto the l'Espace
Killy in no time. From there it is possible to ski over to Tignes.
